Things you'll need:
- 2 Ignition Coils: Beck Arnley 178-8493 Ignition Coil Pack
- 1 set of Ignition wires: NGK (58404) EUX068 Spark Plug Wire Set
- 8 Spark plugs: Denso 5303 Spark Plug
- 1 Intake manifold gasket: Upper/Lower Intake Manifold Gasket
- And some basic tools of course
Here is a pic for reference in case you don't know how something goes or how to route it.
Now we need to loosen the drive belt. This is a photo of the tensioner. Is a 15mm bolt. You put a wrench, and turn it clockwise and loosen the belt from the alternator.
With the belt loose, take out the cover for the compressor clutch and remove the belt from the compressor.
Remove the intake boot. Unto the clamp that secures it to the throttle body, the clamp that connects it to the idle valve, disconnect the Mass Air Flow sensor, and undo the clips that connect it to the air filter housing.
Undo the idle air valve, it has two 10mm bolts and a clamp and a connector.
This is a pic of the valve removed.
Undo the throttle and cruise cables. Just undo the 8 mm bolts that secure it to the intake manifold, you don't want to undo the nuts because you'll lose the adjustment. Then undo them from the throttle body.
Set them aside.
Now we disconnect all the vacuum hoses that go to the Evap valve.
Also undo the connectors.
Now take out the nuts that secure the EGR valves to the throttle body.
Then remove the studs.
Repeat for the passenger side the last two steps.
Undo these vacuum hoses.
Get something that makes it easy to climb on top of your engine like this.
Unclip this big ass harness.
There are four bolts that hold the coil bracket in place. You need to loosen the bottom two (not shown in the pic) and take out the top two without dropping them. So a magnet can go a long way here. They are 8 mm bolts. If you can't find the bottom two you can scroll down and look at the last couple of pics to see the bracket off the car and more or less calculate where they are.
Now remove the six 10 mm bolts that hold the manifold.
Remove the manifold. Easier said than done, you have to wiggle it out.
Make sure you don't drop nothing down the intake holes. Is like your doctor dropping his watch while he has your lungs wide open.
Cover them.
Now take out the last two 8 mm bolts and don't drop them, use a magnet, and fish out the coils. You might need to remove the heater hose, just disconnect it from the driver's side and move it aside.
Make sure you put your new wires where they are supposed to. Here is a diagram:
Here is a pic of the old coils and the new ones. Make sure you buy the parts I recommend otherwise you'll be doing this all over.
Reverse order to install :D.
Can someone please tell me where the spark plugs are located on 2009 Land Rover LR2
ReplyDeleteOr add a diagram of motor so I can see where it's located. Thank you
ReplyDeleteExcellent guidance, saved me a lot of time. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that it is possible to simply flex the plumbing for the EGR back slightly for the bracket to clear the studs. At least it worked for me. Removing the studs would have been much more time consuming
